A Priority – Call to Discipleship

Although we live in an age of instant gratification with emails, text messages, cell phones, and microwaves, no shortcuts exist for true biblical discipleship. Credible Christian witness comes only through intentional, systematic spiritual growth. In the first century church, discipleship was the expected standard – not an option. Because the early church was so effective in training disciples in Scripture reading, prayer, and evangelism, they remained steadfast in spite of persecution. They were successful in spreading Christianity throughout the Roman Empire in an amazingly short period of time.

The Past – Development of Discipleship Training (DT) Materials

Having learned from past experiences and comments from other pastors, I committed to growing a church that was more than a mile wide and an inch deep spiritually. During the formative days of the church I pastored for 28 years, our initial church board gave me the encouragement, time, and resources to develop discipleship materials for our congregation. People began to experience the contagious joy of daily delving into the Scriptures for personal application. Accountability prayer partnerships formed as a result of DT groups. The church grew and with God’s blessings birthed 11 daughter churches, some who have likewise birthed churches. The emphasis – discipleship! And as a result, churches all over the U.S. and other countries began requesting copies of the DT materials.

We invite you to commit to the discipleship challenge. Through Growth Ministries we provide discipleship TOOLS that can be adapted to any and every church setting. People have even used the materials for one-to-one discipleship experiences. We are available to help you with the discipleship challenge in your individual life or the life of your church. Also take advantage of the monthly updated TIPS to aid you in discipleship and small group dynamics. Be sure to share any ideas and successes that you have experienced using the discipleship materials.
